It's Hollywood blacklist day!
The Black List was released today, the list compiles all of the "most liked" unproduced scripts floating around Hollywood this year. Previous pictures that were featured on the list include Lars and the Real Girl, Juno, Superbad, The Fighter and Adventureland all of which fall into my top 50 favorite films. This years list looks pretty interesting, the "most liked" script is called The Imitation Game, written by Graham Moore. It tells the story of British WWII cryptographer Alan Turing, who cracked the German Enigma code and later poisoned himself after being criminally prosecuted for being a homosexual..
It sounds interesting but a lot of the scripts that topped the list in the past still haven't seen the light of day!

The Kitten Covers
The Kitten Covers
This is without a doubt the cutest thing I've ever seen
Album covers with kittens on them!!
Here's a few of my faves
EeeeeeeeeEEEE
So Excited!!! I still miss Kahl Drogo though :(
Battleship...?
So Peter Berg's Battleship...I don't know what to expect? On the one hand its the most ridiculous movie idea ever. Battleship is the most boring game ever invented and it has absolutely no story line, but on the other hand Berg directed Friday Night Lights, one of my favorite movies of all time so we know he has talent! And on the other other hand, two of my fave actors to perve on are in it Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood)
And Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights the TV show)
Well I'll just have to go and see it anyway so

Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain
I just watched a film called Zu Warriors from the Magic Mountain. Its a Hong Kong made film from the 1980s and well....it is MAD but its actually brilliant!! Its hilarious and thought provoking and just a great watch really. I love when you think you're being forced to sit down and watch a snoozefest for college because 99% of the time that is the case!
Who knew film studies was going to be so boring...
Anyway its all on YouTube as you can see from the screen cap its not normal...not at all

Christmas!!!
I took a break from assignments this weekend to put up the Christmas tree! It was great fun, I haven't had the chance to get into the Christmas spirit really this year because of the lack of snow and all of the bloody assignments!

And here's a bonus pic of Harley just before he tore down half the decorations!

Green Card?
Since my summer in NYC, I have made the decision to go back to New York after I graduate in September 2012 on a graduates visa and try get a job there and hopefully get sponsored to stay or-even less likely- meet a husband! A friend of mine who was in Hawaii for the Summer told me that apparently APPARENTLY you can find guys on craigslist who want to marry girls to give them green cards! Now I personally wasn't too attracted to the idea in the first place, partly because its so stupid and so obvious and you would sooo get caught! But mainly because I imagine the type of man that posts on craigslist to marry a girl he doesn't know looks something like this:
Anyway! I decided to go have a look for myself to see if it was true and had a great laugh at the expense of these twonks. My personal favorites have to be:
"I looking for the right girl. Someone fun who likes dinners out. Someone."
Don't be too picky! At least he knows what hes going to get, this guy is completely unaware of what it is he is asking for:
"I am looking to settle into a relationship with a Cute girl who needs help obtaining her Green Card. I am not looking for money in anyway, just a good, real relationship."
Yeh...Just the green card cheers...
"I am open to most Races." okay...okay? "Please be able to speak English so we can understand each other, please don't be obese or lazy."
Em..okay. Rude? Although this guy does note that he is disease free so I suppose he has a bit of bargaining power there.
Do people seriously do this???

Third Times a Charm!
My friend Niamh has just asked me to follow her BLOG as she is trying to get writing again. This has inspired me to start writing again also but unfortunately for me, my blog doesn't seem to have a particular purpose. Niamh's blog is a fashion blog aptly named I Am Tacky. It follows her love of all things tacky and its great!
I've been trying to think all morning about what I should center my blog around but really I can't think of anything! I started this purely just to get writing in order to stave off writers block. It did work, as i mentioned before, I went to New York during the Summer and studied dramatic writing. While the comedy side was a bit of a let down, ( there is nothing more torturous then writing jokes you don't find funny) the screen writing class I took turned out to go much better then I ever could have expected.
I began to write a script with the working title The Ferry. I am quite a slow writer as I don't like to leave anything on the page that I don't think is perfect. I worked as fast as I could though and tried to meet the deadlines given to me by my very helpful teacher Sheldon Woods. I am very confident in my script and received good feedback from all who read the first part. However, I am now stuck at 30 pages. With act 1 completed, I have no idea how to continue! I thought I would perhaps get another 30 or so done before I started college again but unfortunately I have not been struck with inspiration once!
And so, I will try and start writing here again in the hope that I will get back into the swing of things. I do miss writing but theres no point in forcing something that just isn't there, instead I'll try to slyly coerce it out by rambling on about absolutely nothing here!

No Strings Attached....hmmm
I just got back from the cinema where I saw the film No Strings Attached. I knew going into the theater that I shouldn't expect too much but I am a long time Natalie Portman fan like HUGE fan and I figured there haaad to be some reason to make the actress -who just won an Oscar for the performance of a lifetime- choose a rom-com with Ashton Kutcher. I remember reading somewhere that she apparently wanted to "empower women" by choosing a role that wasn't your typical rom-com hopeless romantic and instead was a no nonsense 21st century gal who didn't need no mayn. So apparently now I should feel empowered? Just because the character of Emma was a doctor and said fuck instead of make love?
I found this film to be mildly entertaining but just felt it missed the mark slightly. Everything was a little off. From the lackluster script to the horrendous casting of Ludacris, something just wasn't right with this film. It attempted to break the mold of the modern rom-com by infusing a new fresh-ish type of comedy but it just fell short.
All in all I would give No Strings Attached maybe 3 out of 5 stars? It lost a star because of me being a comedy snob I found many of the jokes to be cheap shots (the reason I HATE The Hangover) and gained a star because I love Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher is a babe, also I enjoyed the cameo of Abby Elliot from SNL even though she stooped so low and kissed that slut

Whaa? 3pm?
The time is wrong...
Yesterday I was given the best news ever, my parents said they would pay for me to do a course in dramatic writing in the Tisch School of the Arts in New York this summer and I am ECSTATIC. I am probably being a bit presumptuous here, but from the looks of things I'll be taking over Lorne Michaels' job by mid August.
The only problem with my big plan is that the website is basically in hieroglyphics its so hard to understand! I can't tell if I can choose what classes to do or if I have to pick from a certain list or whats going on!! And so far I haven't been able to find a contact email, only a contact telephone number and I COULDN'T be ringing up New York!
Also I have a huge problem with having to go away on my own aaah
So for the time-being, or at least until my dad gets home from work tomorrow to help, all I can do is look at lovely apartments in the East Village that I could never afford and imagine myself strutting around New York singing Jay Z and Alicia Keys
:S
Me Blooog
Hallo to the zero people reading this!
Under the wise guidance of my dad, I have started a blog. My dad's blog has been nominated for two IBAs and it gets him a loooot of attention. Most recently, Ciaran Cuffe from the Green Party called around to our house asking specifically for him to talk about something boring he posted about and once Eircom even helped us with our internet sooner then usual because they saw his post complaining about how shit their service is!
So because he talks about the power of blogging constantly, I've decided to give it a go. I hope to get into some form of writing when I finish college so perhaps this will be a good way of getting used to public writing, or perhaps I'll forget my password like I usually do and never post again
:)
